The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law

The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law is an integral part of one of the world’s great educational institutions. Founded in 1891 and consistently the top-ranked law school in the State of Ohio, the Moritz College of Law has grown into one of the nation’s pre-eminent public law schools and one of the most respected law schools in the world.

A collegial community of approximately 570 students and more than 50 faculty members, Moritz is known for its rigorous academic program, the pioneering research of its world-class faculty, a deep commitment to teaching and professional training, and the development of future leaders.

The college’s more than 11,000 alumni are central to its national reputation. Graduates include justices of the Supreme Court of Ohio, federal appeals and district court judges, U.S. senators, U.S. representatives, governors, managing partners in law firms of all sizes, chief executive officers of Fortune 500 corporations, professors at law schools across the country, and prominent attorneys in private practice, government service, and public interest law firms.

JD Program

Master of Laws (LLM)

The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law Master of Laws (LLM) Program draws upon the excellence in teaching and research at the best law school in Ohio and one of the best public law schools in the U.S. The LLM program is designed for foreign law graduates and foreign lawyers who wish to advance their legal education and careers in a stimulating academic environment. The LLM program features a career-oriented curriculum with combined offerings of doctrinal courses in major legal practice areas and experiential learning courses. The program equips LLM candidates with essential lawyering skills and real-life work experience to meet the demand of the global legal market. LLM students also have the opportunity to sharpen their legal analysis, research, and writing skills through a broad array of seminar courses

Dual-Degree Programs

The Ohio State University is one of the world’s best comprehensive, public research universities. The university offers 94 doctoral programs, 97 master’s programs, and countless opportunities for interdisciplinary work.

Moritz students can choose from one of four formal joint-degree programs:

  • JD/MBA with the Fisher College of Business
  • JD/MHA with the College of Public Health
  • JD/MA in public policy with the John Glenn College of Public Affairs
  • JD/MD with the College of Medicine

Law Library

The primary mission of the Moritz Law Library is to support scholarship and instruction in the law. The Law Library has a long history. It was formed in December 1891 with a gift in memory of the Honorable Henry C. Noble of Columbus. The Law Library has occupied its current location in Drinko Hall since 1992 when a substantial addition to the Moritz College of Law building was opened. This addition continues to provide the law library’s patrons with convenient access to the collection and services, as well as ample and comfortable room in which to work. In 1998, the Law Library was named after distinguished College of Law alumnus, Michael E. Moritz. The collection may be used by the entire Ohio State University community. Furthermore, as the largest law library in the state, the Moritz Law Library is a valuable resource for the attorneys, judges, officials, and citizens of Ohio.

The Moritz College of Law Career Services Office knows that the best law is practiced by men and women whose practices fully utilize their unique skills and strengths. Their  staff is committed to helping students find the best job fit possible through individualized self assessment, identifying appropriate legal career options, providing training in job search skills and offering many sources of employment opportunities. They also help employers nationwide; ranging from large law firms to public interest organizations and government agencies, hire the students who best fit their needs.
