Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University is committed to design and deliver legal education, promote academic achievement and excellence in legal research. With growing importance for quality legal education, various national law schools acquired lot of importance. To meet the requirements of students of this State, the Government of Andhra Pradesh decided to establish a new Law University and as per the decision of the Council of Ministers meeting held on 30-06-2008 the Governor of Andhra Pradesh promulgated the Andhra Pradesh University of Law Ordinance, 2008 on 8th July 2008.
Subsequently the cabinet on 04-08-2008 approved Andhra Pradesh University of Law Bill, 2008, replacing the Ordinance and this Bill was passed by the State Legislature on 28th August 2008 and became an Act after the same was assented to by the Governor on 23rd September 2008. Thus, the A.P. University of Law came into existence with Visakhapatnam as the main campus and two branches at Kadapa and Nizamabad. Further, the Andhra Pradesh University of Law’s name was changed to “Damodaran Sanjivayya National Law University” by the Andhra Pradesh University of Law (Amendment) Act, 2012 (Act No. 15 of 2012), which was published in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette Extraordinary on 14th May 2012.
Courses
5 Year Integrated B.A., LL.B.(Hons.)
The University offers Five Year Integrated B.A., LL.B. (Hons.).Students are required to complete 220 credits before they become eligible to graduate. Each credit course involves 60 hours of classroom teaching.
Eligibility:
(I) DSNLU is governed by CLAT notification as regards eligibility criteria.
(ii) Intake: 5 Year Integrated B.A, LL.B., (Hons.) – 120 seats
LL.M.
The University offers one year LL.M. The academic year is divided into two semesters: the Monsoon Semester (July-November) and the Spring Semester (January May).
One Year LL.M. in three specializations with effect from 2023-24 which is as follows:
1. Corporate and Commercial Law
2. Constitutional Law and Administrative Law
3. Criminal and Security Law
PH.D. Degree
The candidate must possess Master’s Degree in Law/LL.M/ etc Social Sciences like M.A., M.Com, MBA or natural sciences like M.Sc., M. Tech for interdisciplinary research (from any recognized University or its equivalent from an accredited institution /Foreign University) with a minimum of 55% of marks or B+ grade. *Relaxation of 5% marks will be given to SC/ST/BC/Specially Abled and other categories of candidates as per the UGC Regulations, 2022
LL.D. Degree
The candidate must possess Ph.D. in Law or any social or natural science for interdisciplinary research from any recognized University or its equivalent from an accredited institution /Foreign University. LL.D. Program in Law at DSNLU, is a post-doctoral course with aspirations of conceptual contributions enriching the legal knowledge regime. Candidates should have completed their Ph.D. on the date of making an application; and should have published minimum two articles in the relevant area on which LL.D. admission sought.
The candidate intending to register for LL.D. shall be admitted as per the Regulations of the University.
Library
Library is the live nerve of any academic institution of higher learning. Its importance increases many-fold in law institutions as it plays a significant role in the pursuit of academic excellence. Keeping this in view, a constant effort is being made to enrich the library with a collection of a wide variety of books and journals from the perspective of law students and scholars. Internet facilities through LAN and Wi-Fi and E-resources with Remotexs are also added to the law library. Open access system is implemented for easy access to books and other materials.
Infrastructure
Academic Block is fully air conditioned and disabled friendly with fire & safety equipment. The Infrastructure consists of 11 Class Rooms, 400 seater Seminar Hall, 2 Conference Halls, Moot Court Hall and Library. The Academic Block is fully connected with WIFI & LAN facility provided by 1GBPs NKN-MHRD all the class rooms and seminars halls are provided with public address systems and LCD projectors.
Boys and Girls Hostels
Hostels for Boys and Girls have 160 rooms each on twin sharing basis and amenities including solar powered Hot water/ R.O. for drinking water / WI-FI and LAN. Two Badminton courts and table Tennis Boards and Gym with Latest equipment are available in both the Hostels
