Hon’ble Justice Daya Chaudhary, President, Punjab State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Chandigarh, not only believes in ‘equality’ but also in ‘equity’. Recently, during a grand event organised by DLF Chandigarh, Justice Chaudhary was the Chief Guest, where she not only bestowed on Iron Lady Awards to women but also Man of Honour Award to men.
In her motivational speech, Justice Chaudhary gave panacea to women by saying, “Women arise, awake and know your strength”, to cherish high ideals to achieve great heights in the life to come out with flying colours in all of one’s endeavour to attain the desired goals even after facing mighty obstacles, should be the ambition of every young woman in the legal field. Such ambition is really wonderful, marvelous, a sign of real youth, without which life is meaningless, useless and also monotonous. Look forward and do not be satisfied with anything less you want to achieve in life. Life is really challenging but interesting.”
In 1999-2000, Justice Chaudhary was elected as President of Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association and earned the distinction of being the first woman president ever elected to a Bar Association in the country. She was also the youngest president who earned this position at the age of 40 years.
Justice Chaudhary was the first woman assistant solicitor general in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and remained so till her elevation to the Bench on December 5, 2007.
On August 16, 2021, the Punjab government appointed Justice Daya Chaudhary, as President of Punjab State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission at Chandigarh. According to an order issued by Punjab government on August 13, 2021, her tenure will last for a four year term or till she attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier, from the date she assumed the charge of the post.
