The Army Institute of Law was established in July 1999 by the Indian Army under the aegis of the Army Welfare Education Society at its interim location at Patiala. The Institute is affiliated to the Punjabi University, Patiala and approved by the Bar Council of India. With ‘Aspire & Achieve’ as its motto, the Institute has grown as a Centre of Excellence in the field of legal education. The Institute is accredited grade ‘B’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The Army Institute of Law has a magnificent residential campus in an impressive architectural structure in the vicinity of Chandigarh and Punjab & Haryana High Court. It conducts a five year BA.LLB and a one year LL.M course.
Course
B.A., LL.B
Eligibility:- Who has passed 10+2 examination from Punjab School Education Board or any other equivalent examination recognized as such by the Punjabi University, Patiala, securing at least 45% marks is eligible. The applicants, who have obtained 10+2 through Open University systems directly, without having any basic qualifications for pursuing such studies, are not eligible for admission in Law Courses.
The seats shall be apportioned as follows:- Admission to 75 seats for wards of army personnel will be done through entrance test(Online LET) conducted by AIL under the aegis of AWES. Admission to 05 seats in the All India Category will also through the same entrance test. Candidates for both Army and All India Category will be called for counselling as per merit in the written exam. Admission will be granted only if the candidate is found eligible on the day of counselling. Admission to 20 seats in the Punjab Category will be based on 10+2 merits, drawn up by the nominated university as per the notification issued by Govt. of Punjab.
LL.M (One Year Course):
The Programme is designed to put students on a strong footing to undertake jobs in teaching & other sectors at the National and International level. Students are awarded the Degree after successful completion of the one year programme. Admission to the LLM course for the session 2021-22 will be on the basis of marks of the qualifying exam BA LLB (5 years) or LLB (3 years).
As per Punjabi University norms, minimum 55% marks in BA LLB (5 years) or LLB (3 years) are required for seeking admission to the course.
Library
The Army Institute of Law provides students, with extensive Library facilities to maximize their knowledge in the field of law. The students are taught from the very first semester, the importance of reading, comprehending and retaining important material through research, extra library hours and project presentations. Through the extensive and exhaustive library, the potential lawyers of tomorrow are made to imbibe the value and habit of concentrated and tireless reading. The students are also made to understand various basic legal issues through the most recent journals, report, research papers, etc. The e-Library section has CD-ROMs and Subscribed law sites through leased line Internet connectivity.
