HNLU is a Residential University and is sixth in the series of National Law Schools in India. HNLU has been included in the list of the Universities maintained by the University Grants Commission the University is recognized by the Bar Council of India under section 7 of the Advocates Act 1961.
Established in 2003, Hidayatullah National Law University has completed the journey of more than one and half a decade. In such a short span of time, HNLU has carved out a niche in the realm of legal education across India and the legacy is soaring towards newer heights day by day.
Named after the great legal luminary Justice Mohammed Hidayatullah, the University was established by the Government of Chhattisgarh under the Hidayatullah National University of Law, Chhattisgarh, Act.
Courses
B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) Five Year Integrated Course
Admission to the B.A.LL.B. (Honours) Program shall exclusively be based on the performance of the candidate in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). However, in order to be eligible to appear in CLAT, a candidate should have obtained a Senior Secondary School/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent certificate from a recognized Board with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC/ST candidates)
Candidates who are appearing or have appeared in the 10+2 examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear in the test. However, such candidates are required to have passed the qualifying examination at the time of their admission and must be able to submit proofs in support of their claims.
Intake and Reservation: The intake capacity for the B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) Programme shall ordinarily be 180 (One Hundred and Eighty) with the following reservations. However, it shall be at the discretion of the Vice Chancellor to proportionately increase/decrease the total number of seats:
LL.M.
Post-Graduate Program (One-Year LL.M.)
HNLU offers one-year LL. M. Program spread over two Semesters. The LL.M. program is designed to inculcate research skills and analytical abilities in students. In addition to classroom training imparted through innovative teaching methods, the LL. M. Program is focused on self-learning and research conducted by the students under the guidance of the faculty members
Intake and Reservation: The intake capacity for the LL.M. Programme shall ordinarily be 90 (Ninety) with the following reservations. However, it shall be at the discretion of the Vice Chancellor to proportionately increase/decrease the total number of seats:
Schedule Caste 14, Schedule Tribe 07, OBC 24, Unreserved 45, Total 90
Ph.D. Programme
Ph.D. Program in Law has commenced at HNLU w.e.f. academic session 2014-15 wherein admission of scholars is made strictly on the basis of admission test conducted by the University separately.
HNLU invites applications for Admissions into the Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme in Law and Inter-disciplinary studies. The doctoral program at HNLU seeks to provide a forum to the students from legal and inter- disciplinary fields to pursue their academic interests and contribute towards their chosen area of study.
Library
HNLU library is considered as a frontline library among all the libraries of national law schools owing to its vivid and rich collection of reading materials where one can realize and enrich his/her domain of knowledge in all best possible ways. Infrastructure wise it is a huge three storey wi fi enabled building fully air conditioned and comfortable enough to have an awesome experience of reading and assimilating knowledge. Along with vast and vivid sources of reading, Library provides various online learning platforms and interfaces like.

All stakeholders access these services remotely, such access has been proved as our major endeavour amidst this pandemics to further improve and making it more user oriented we have introduced Braille system for our visually impaired student community. This treasure of knowledge would be like a shining light which will make the journey of legal studies more and more beautiful.
