The first impression that we carry of a person has a lot to do with looks, and looks have a lot to do with the health of one's skin. A leathery, lifeless skin can only make one look old and tired, whereas a glowing, healthy skin could make one look much younger for one's years. For lawyers looks can sometimes be important. Of course, the reputation does half of the work, but it is the way you look and conduct yourself that inspires further confidence in a client. It is also a well established fact that if one is sure of one's looks, one feels and acts far more confident, which surely does wonders to one's personal presentation.

Thus, there are reasons galore for one to take better care of one's skin so as to look better, younger and more confident. And it is not such a hard thing to do. All you need to do is know what is good for your skin and what is not, and act on the knowledge. Minor adjustments in your lifestyle and food habits are sufficient to have the enviable glow of youth.

What can single-handedly do wonders to the skin is all around us - water. We all know thirst and we also know how important water is for our existence. But it is also equally important for the health of our skin and, therefore, for our looks. And it is also one thing we most ignore. Drink plenty of water. It replenishes the skin and keeps it well hydrated. The skin must always be well hydrated because dehydrated skin starts ageing. Roughly 8 glasses of water everyday is considered good for skin and also for one's overall health. One must be particularly careful about drinking sufficient water during the summers because it is easy during this season to go dehydrated without realizing. Therefore, even if you are not thirsty, drink a glass of water every 2 hours or so for the sake of your skin. Drinking plenty of water also helps the body flush out toxins with ease, which, in turn, keeps the skin healthy and free of blemishes.

Another thing that you could do for your skin is add fruits and raw vegetables to your diet because fresh fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals, which provide necessary nourishment to the skin. Vitamin C and E are particularly effective because they have active antioxidants that annihilate free radicals nullifying the most prominent cause of wrinkles.

To increase your daily intake of Vitamin C, you could start consuming fruits like guavas, strawberries, papaya, kiwis, and oranges. These fruits are rich in Vitamin C and also have sufficient amount of antioxidants.

For Vitamin E you may go for carrots, spinach, turnips, mustard and broccoli. Vitamin E is also found in sufficient quantities in papaya, almonds and kiwi. Certain edible oils like olive oil and that derived from soya, sunflower, corn and safflower are also good sources of Vitamin E. Vitamin E is not only good for skin, but is also beneficial for hair.

If you are one of those people who believe in working hard and partying harder, you must bear in mind that your skin would not be very happy with your drinking or smoking. It is, therefore, strongly advised that you quit both, and if that seems harder at the moment, do cut down as much as you can.

Sufficient sleep is also very important for healthy skin. So, you must sleep for at least 6 hours everyday. Now, this does not mean a nap here and a nap there while to continue working in the meantime. Lawyers are quite careless about sleep. They tend to work, work and work and then sit up and start working again. That's harmful not only for one's skin but also for one's immune system.

Start getting up early in the morning to breathe fresh air because a good deal of oxygen every morning coupled with some rigorous physical activity is extremely beneficial for your skin. So, brisk walking or moderate running that makes you sweat a bit and pushes you to breathe harder and deeper would retard ageing and make you look much younger than you are. It has also been found that physical activity in the morning helps lower stress levels, which is an additional advantage because stress is the core reason for a number of ailments and is also a known cause for early ageing of skin. So, you have two very good reasons to enjoy the refreshing morning breeze.

Skin care that works well with one person may not work as well with another because of the difference in the skin type. However, the care mentioned above is independent of the skin type because these measures are for healthy skin and apply uniformly to all skin types. Having said that, it is also important to mention that if your skin is oily you must avoid oily food as much as possible. Although oily food is not good for any kind of skin, it is particularly harmful for the oily type.

Comprehensive skin care is comprised of cleansing, toning, moisturizing and conditioning routines, among which the cleansing part is the most crucial aspect. Skin suffers to a large extent on account of the everyday pollution and the modern day lifestyle that takes away our natural surroundings and puts us amidst artificial, man-made environment. The early morning walks and physical exercise brings one closer to the nature and refreshes one's skin.

It is your face that is exposed all day and it is this part of the body that needs to be taken good care of. Wash your face as often in the day as you can, but avoid using soap very often. Soap may be used in the morning and in the evening and if you have been out for quite some time, especially in dusty environment, you might give your face a soap wash in the afternoon as well. But do not overdo it because overuse of soap can leave your skin dry. Splash plain water on your face every now and then and dry your face with a clean, dry towel. You may also give a steam treatment to your facial skin to clean the pores. Exfoliation may also be undertaken to remove dead cells and allow the skin to breathe.

Use a reliable sunscreen lotion whenever you decide to step out in the sun. The ultraviolet rays that the sun showers are extremely harmful for the skin and may not only cause sunburn but also skin cancer.

These are some of the routine measures that one could take to keep the skin healthy so that one could continue looking young and impressive for longer than time would otherwise permit.
