Q. What are the rules for transportation of Sheep and Goats provided under the Transportation of Animals Rules, 1978?

A. Following is the chart of transportation of sheep and goats by railway wagon:

Broad Gauge
A maximum number of 700 sheep or goats in a wagon area less than 21.11 sq m

Narrow Gauge
A maximum number of 60 sheep or goats in a wagon area of 12.5 sq m and above.

Metre Gauge
A maximum number of 100 sheep or goats in a wagon area of 21.11 sq m and above

A maximum number of 50 sheep or goats in a wagon area less than 12.5 sq m

Goods vehicles, whose capacity is 4.5 to 5 tons which are generally used for transporting animals, shall not carry more than forty sheep or goats.
