The Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) and Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy Training (MILAT) on 7th September, 2012 organised an Annual Law Symposium on Institutionalizing Continuing Legal Education: The Way Forward and honoured outstanding Law Teachers and Law Schools in the SAARC region at Hotel The Lalit, New Delhi.
Chief Guest of the function, Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid reminisced his teaching days and regretted not continuing with the teaching profession which he took up for three years. Guest of Honour Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court Justice A K Sikri in his address stated "As far as legal education is concerned teachers know the best." Justice Sikri emphasised the role of eminent legal teachers such as Professor Madhav Menon in setting up the Judicial Academy for judges.
This year, the 'Distinguish Law Teacher' award was given to Prof. Upendra Baxi who has taught law in over a dozen countries in his career spanning nearly four decades. The 'SAARC Law Scholar' award 2012 was given to Prof. Yubaraj Sangroula. The 'Legal Education Innovation' award was given to Dr Ajay Pandey who is a teacher at the Jindal University Global Law School. The 'Institutional Excellence' award was given to Nirma University Institute of Law, Ahmedabad. The 'Prof. N R Madhava Menon Best Law Teacher' award was given to Prof. A Lakshminath.
