The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, Patiala established in the year 2006 has taken a significant lead in the global academic domains. The Institution has got its name highlighted in the national as well as international streams by establishing specialization Research Centres like Centre for Consumer Protection Law and Advocacy (CCPLA); Centre for Advanced Studies in Criminal Law (CASCAL); Centre for Advanced Studies in Humanitarian Law (CASH); Bureau of Information for Studies Abroad (BISA). University has also established RGNUL Institute for Competitive Examination (RICE) to prepare aspirants of Civil services. Directorate of Distance Education (DODE) aims at excelling in distance education in various fields of study. The research aptitude inculcated through publication of the members of faculty and students has given a distinction to the institution. Research Degree Programmes like M.Phil., Ph.D., and LL.D. are also being undertaken. On the whole, the institution is blessed with an august academic atmosphere, endowed with professionalism and perfectionism.
B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Five-Years Integrated Programme
The Admission shall be based exclusively on the performance in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). However, to qualify for admission the candidate must have passed 10+2 examination of the Punjab School Education Board or its equivalent with minimum 50% marks for General Category and 45% marks for SC/ST/Person with disability, in the aggregate. The course also includes classroom assignments, seminars and project work relating to each subject. The thrust of the course is not only towards teaching but also on professional training.
LL.M. Two Years Post Graduation
The RGNUL offers two-year LL.M. Post-Graduation course with specialization in Business Law, Consumer Law, Criminal Law and Human Rights Law. The Admission shall be based exclusively on the performance in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). However, to qualify for admission the candidate must have passed the LL.B./B.L. Degree examination from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law or any other University whose Degrees are recognized by this University, with minimum 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/Person with disability).
A candidate can register for the Ph.D. Degree Programme either as a Full-Time Researcher or as a Part-Time Researcher. The Ph.D. Programme shall be as under: Ph.D. in Law, Ph.D. in Social Sciences with Law. An applicant seeking registration to the Ph.D. Degree Programme must have: A Degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) from any recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks; or M.Phil. Degree in Law with B+ grade or its equivalent.
The Library has been planned and is being developed by a team of qualified professional Library staff. The Library is well stocked and the entire Library is divided into the following major sections: Reference Section, Periodical Section, Textbook Section, Documentation Section, Moot Court Competition Section, General Section, Technical Section, Xerox Section. The Library at the RGNUL has acquired a collection of over 22000 volumes covering a wide range of general and special subjects consisting of text books, reference books, bound volumes of journals, reports, e-books, thesis etc. apart from the current legal periodicals. The RGNUL Library at present subscribes 80 Law Journals and about 25 magazines. Apart from the subscription to law journals, 19 Newspapers and Online journals (Manupatra, Westlaw India, SCC Online, LII of India, EPW, DELNET and Hein Online etc. ) are also being subscribed by the RGNUL Library for keeping the students and faculty in touch with the current affairs.
Extra-curricular activities are an important part of the law school culture and RGNUL is no exception to this. Students at RGNUL take part in a plethora of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and events ranging from moot courts to street plays and from client counseling to athletics. Students, who are successful in fierce intra-university competition, are also encouraged to represent the University in various competitions. RGNUL has bagged a number of laurels and acclaims at various national and international level competitions in a short period of time since its establishment which is an enviable achievement for a new and upcoming law school such as RGNUL.
The University has taken several initiatives and organized many national level events with the help of active student participation. Apart from organizing important moot court competitions like Law Asia, Commonwealth and BCI Moots, RGNUL also boasts of its own brand of national level parliamentary debate competition, Agahi and publishes a number of journals and newsletters like RGNUL Law Review, Advocacy, Carpe Diem etc.
