NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad , an institution of national eminence in the field of legal education and research, is a residential University established in 1998 under the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University Act (Andhra Pradesh Act 34 of 1998) of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislature. The University provides an opportunity to explore limitless options in legal profession and is setting new standards in legal education. The University has as its primary mission to create a generation of able, competent and humane lawyers who will not only enter the Bar and Bench but will also be equipped to address effectively the imperatives of the new millennium and to engage in community services.
The Objectives of the University inter alia are :
- To evolve and impart comprehensive legal education at all levels to achieve excellence;
- To organise advanced studies and promote research in all branches of law;
- To disseminate legal knowledge by organizing lectures, seminars, symposia, workshops and conferences;
- To promote cultural, legal and ethical values with a view to promote and foster the rule of law and the objectives enshrined in the Constitution of India;
- To liaise with institutions of higher learning and research in India and abroad;
- To promote legal awareness in the community for achieving social and economic justice;
- To undertake study and training projects relating to law, legislation and judicial institutions.
B.A., LL.B. (Hons.)
5-Year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Programme is made strictly on merit, based on a Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) at different centres across the country. To be eligible for admission, a candidate should have passed the 10 + 2 or equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in the aggregate (45% in case of reserved categories, i.e ., SC / ST/ Persons with Disability) and should not be more than 20 years of age as on July 1, 2011 (22 years in case of
SC / ST / Persons with Disability).
Admission to the LL.M. Programme is made strictly on merit, based on a Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) to be conducted at different centres across the country. To be eligible for admission to the 2-Year LL.M. Degree Programme, a candidate should have passed the LL.B. / B.L. Degree or an equivalent Degree from a recognized University with not less than 55% marks in the aggregate (50% in case of reserved Categories, i.e ., SC / ST / Persons with Disability).
Research Committee consisting of the faculty of the University and external experts to supervise doctoral degree constituted by the Vice-Chancellor under Ph.D. Regulations shall also look into the admissions and other issues relating to M.Phil. Degree. The candidate should have an LL.M. Degree from any recognised University securing not less than 'B+' grade or an aggregate of 55% marks or its equivalent.
The Vice-Chancellor shall constitute a Research Committee consisting of the faculty of the University and external experts to supervise doctoral degree for a period of three years at a time.
NALSAR Law Library is the hub of all library activities established to accomplish the research and academic objectives of the University. It is located as an independent building in the heart of campus giving access to its rich collection of primary and secondary Legal resources to all the users in the campus. Library has a collection of more than 27,000 items comprising law reports, reviews, periodicals, manuals and choicest publications of text books and other resources.
Halls of Residence
The University maintains separate residence for Boys and Girls with a common Dining Hall. The senior students are provided with single occupancy rooms, while other students are provided with double occupancy rooms. The Halls of Residence have common room facilities, Indoor Games, Television, Telephone (only for incoming calls) and Internet Connectivity.
Accommodation is provided in the guest house for the Visiting Faculty, Academicians and Members of the Judicial Fraternity.
An architecturally conceived state-of-the-art Convention Centre is in place, to be used exclusively as a self-contained facility for organising National and International Conferences, Training Programmes, Workshops, Summer Courses for National and International students and also programmes for Bar in continuing legal education etc. The air conditioned rooms in the Centre are well furnished, possessing essential facilities, including internet connectivity, facilitating participants to have all their needs fulfilled at one place.
The Auditorium can accommodate over 800 persons and is used for organising the University Convocations, International Conferences and Seminars etc.
The University has a Swaraj Mazda Vehicle for providing conveyance facility to both Faculty and Administrative Staff who reside in the twin-cities. It is also used for students' activities such as Court visits and Legal Aid Camps. The Campus is well connected to the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad by the A.P State Road Transport.
Indian Bank branch is opened at Shameerpet village. Students can open accounts with the Indian Bank. An ATM counter is available on the Campus to cater to the requirements of students and staff.
The University has its own Health Centre with one Male Medical Officer, one Female Medical Officer and a Resident Nurse. In addition, Psychiatrist also pays one visit in a week for counseling the students. In case of serious ailments, on the advice of the Doctor, facilities are provided for admittance in Hospitals in the twin-cities for timely attention and care.
Games and Sports
A stadium has been constructed and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Two Tennis Courts one each for Boys and Girls are also there.
