University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun

University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) is India 's First Energy University and Core Sector University . It is the first Asian University with Energy programs to be accredited by Energy Institute, U.K. UPES offers over 33 graduate, post graduate and doctoral programs to more than 2400 students across its 3 campuses, in the high growth sectors of Oil and Gas, Power, Aviation, Shipping, Automobile, Infrastructure and Logistics and Supply Chain.

UPES is a unique institution. Out of the many 'Firsts' to its credit, the first convocation had the first citizen of the nation as the Chief Guest of Honor, the then President of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam read out the convocation address.

Mission

  • To create top quality human resource in order to enhance the productivity in the Oil & Gas, Energy and in Transportation industry.
  • To design, develop and deliver cutting edge education and training programs for professionals in the industry. To take the leadership role in promoting the growth of Oil and Gas, Energy and Transportation sectors through specific education and outreach activities.
  • To provide support to research, consultancy and development activities in all technical and managerial aspects of the Oil & Gas, Energy and Transportation sectors.

Courses

UPES's integrated 5 year program in Energy Laws is first of its kind of program in the whole of South Asia. It is approved by Bar Council of India, and is currently being offered only at Dehradun under College of Legal Studies. The program, designed with active participation of the Industry, seeks to equip students with both academic and application skills.

LL.B. (Five year Integrated Program)
With emphasis on Power/Electricity Laws

A degree program approved by Bar Council of India, is designed to develop future legal professionals who can understand ever increasing regulatory/legislative legal framework and contractual requirements for energy sector companies. The program equips the students with the latest laws and judgments connected with the sectors.

Integrated LL.B.+ MBA (Energy Management)

This 6- year program is designed to develop new generation of legal professionals who will improve their effectiveness as managers, policy makers, and legal advisors by providing them with strong management skills and an in-depth specialization in Energy law.

Eligibility:

For 5 Year Integrated LL.B.

Candidates must have minimum 50% aggregate in 10 th and 12 th followed by a UPES Law Studies Aptitude Test (UL-SAT) followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

For 6 Year Integrated LL.B. + MBA

Minimum 60% marks in 10 th and 12 th

Academic Resources

UPES is the first University in the country to have successfully implemented the SAP solution for Higher Education and Research. The solution addresses the Finance, Materials, Human Capital and Academic Administration functions. The implementation has become a global success story and has been adopted as a accelerated deployment model by SAP Germany.

Library

A well equipped library is the backbone of any university. Constructed in a total area of more than 5000 sq feet, the main library has a seating capacity of more than 100 students and contains over 15000 volumes of publications including books, standards, reports, and National and International Journals. Moreover the library subscribes to over 100 Journals and Magazines on engineering and management related subjects and is currently in talks with some renowned Indian and foreign universities for acquiring membership of their libraries.

Advanced Computing Center

The University colleges have computing facilities that serve the University as a whole (including regional campuses) as well as facilities whose primary function is to support activities on the campus. These facilities include central systems, microcomputers, and workstations. There are large, central computers that serve many people at once.

Computer Centre  

Any student having his own laptop can be made part of the wireless network and have internet access from anywhere on campus. Ancillary services and access to peripherals like CD/DVD burners, Scanners, photo quality printers and high speed laser printers is available to students through the computer centre. Centralized online backups are also maintained for the campus here. All the classrooms are equipped with ceiling mounted LCD/DLP projectors, Computers and PA system with wireless microphones.
