University of Petroleum and Energy Studies
 

The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) is a first of its kind university in the Pan Asian region. It is the - First Indian Energy University recognized by UGC under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956; First Indian Energy University accredited by the Energy Institute, UK; First Indian Energy Institution to set up an in-house Bio-Diesel Laboratory; First Indian University to implement SAP for its operations. The University was honoured at World Oil Awards 2012 organised by World Oil Magazine at the gala event held on October 18, 2012 at Houston, USA. With this award, the University has become the 1st Indian Asian University to receive the honour Outstanding Petroleum University. The Chancellor, UPES Dr. S. J. Chopra, recipient of the Petrotech Life Time Achievement Award 2012 is the founder Chancellor of the University.

UPES was established in 2003 through an Act (UPES Act, 2003) of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand. It is situated in a picturesque, 30-acre spacious campus in Pondha valley, Dehradun.

Since its inception, UPES has emerged as a world-class institution; dedicated to developing super-specialized, ready to deploy managers and engineers for domain specific Industry. UPES is committed to provide training, research, consultancy or outreach services in Energy & allied areas.

Programmes

Undergraduate Programs

5 years Integrated B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) with specialization in Energy Laws

Candidates must have minimum 50% aggregate in 10 th and 12 th followed by a UPES Law Studies Aptitude Test (UL-SAT) followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

5 years Integrated BBA LL.B. (Hons.) with specialization in Corporate Laws

Candidates must have minimum 50% aggregate in 10 th and 12 th followed by a UPES Law Studies Aptitude Test (UL-SAT)/ Board Merit/ CLAT Merit/ LSAT Merit  followed by Group Discussion and Interview.

B.Tech (Energy Technology)+ LL.B. (Hons.) with specialization in Intellectual Property Rights

Minimum 60% marks at Higher and Senior Secondary level (10th and 12th); Minimum 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at Senior Secondary level also mandatory.

B. Tech (Computer Science Engineering)+ LL.B. (Hons.) with specialization in Cyber Laws

Minimum 60% marks at Higher and Senior Secondary level (10th and 12th); Minimum 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at Senior Secondary level also mandatory followed by UPES Engineering Aptitude Test (UPESEAT) + Central Counseling or UPES Law Studies Aptitude Test (UL-SAT)/ Board Merit/ CLAT Merit/ LSAT Merit  followed by Group Discussion and Interview.

Library

A well equipped library is the backbone of any university. Constructed in a total area of more than 5000 sq feet, the main library has a seating capacity of more than 100 students and contains over 15000 volumes of publications including books, standards, reports, proceedings and National and International Journals. Moreover the library subscribes to over 100 Journals and Magazines on engineering and management related subjects and is currently in talks with some renowned Indian and foreign universities for acquiring membership of their libraries.

Advanced Computing Center

The University colleges have computing facilities that serve the University as a whole (including regional campuses) as well as facilities whose primary function is to support activities on the campus. These facilities include central systems, microcomputers, and workstations. There are large, central computers that serve many people at once. Such central systems provide on-line access to a variety of information, including a SAP ERP system specifically designed for Higher Education and Research.

Computer Centre  

Any student having his own laptop can be made part of the wireless network and have internet access from anywhere on campus. Ancillary services and access to peripherals like CD/DVD burners, Scanners, photo quality printers and high speed laser printers is available to students through the computer centre. Centralized online backups are also maintained for the campus.

Lecture Halls 

All the classrooms are equipped with ceiling mounted LCD/DLP projectors, computers and PA system with wireless microphones.
