National Law University (NLU), Delhi established in 2008 by Act No.1 of 2008 of National Capital Territory of Delhi and with the initiative of High Court of Delhi is another Law University in the list of premier Law Universities established in India. The vision of the University is to create a Global Legal Institution which will compete with the best outside India and to prepare Lawyers for a legal career that introduces them to wide range of opportunities in legal profession across the globe. The University has state-of-art infrastructure with all facilities for best of learning and research.
NLUD is one of the elite national law schools in India built on the five-year law degree model proposed and implemented by the Bar Council of India.
B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Programme
NLUD offers a five year undergraduate (UG) B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) program. The candidates should have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an equivalent examination thereto securing in the aggregate not less than 50% of the total marks. The eigibility condition for admission of students under the Foreign Nationals Category shall be 65% marks in the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an equivalent examination. Admission is through the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), where 70 seats are offered. Ten additional seats are allocated to foreign nationals.
LL.M. Degree Programme
To be eligible to appear for admission to LL.M. Programme, a candidate should have passed the LL.B. or an equivalent degree from a recognised University with not less than 55% marks in aggregate (50% in case of reserved categories, i.e. SC/ST/Persons with Disability) The admission is through a written test which is conducted by the University followed by an Interview.
To be admitted to the candidature for a Doctoral degree an applicant shall have obtained a Master's Degree in law of any recognised University securing not less than 55% marks or its equivalent or obtained a degree in law and Master's Degree with M.Phil in social sciences or humanities of any recognised University with not less than 55% marks or its equivalent. The admission shall be through a written test to be conducted by the University.
P.G. Diploma in Judging & Court Management
P.G. Diploma in Judging & Court Management is being offered to law graduates who have done five year integrated law course / three year LL.B. course. The P.G. Diploma programme is conceived with the idea of attracting talented law graduates / young lawyers who are interested in joining the judiciary. Those who have appeared for the final year examination can also apply.
Halls of Residence
The University is fully residential and maintains separate residence for boys and girls. The Halls of Residence shall be provided with Common Room facilities, indoor games, television and gym.
Internet / Computer Centre
The campus is wi-fi (wireless friendly) enabled. The internet centre has 50 high ends desktop with Microsoft operating system well-equipped with optical drives. Besides this a separate bay is also available for laptop users. The Internet Centre also works closely with leading academic stakeholders of the next-generation Internet, such as Manupatra, Lexis Nexis, etc.
The facilities for sports are planned in the additional land which is available to the University for the purpose. Gymnasium, Tennis-Court and swimming-pool are also available.
Facilities for Conferences/ Seminars
There are Conference/Seminar rooms in the Administration Block furnished with state-of-the-art facilities.
A fully air-conditioned auditorium with a sitting capacity of over 650 people is equipped with latest and state-of-the-art audio and visual facilities. This is used for organizing University functions including seminars and conferences.
NLUD library has a state-of-art library building with easy access comprising three floors with immense number of seating capacity. Library is fully automated and circulation of books is maintained through electronic Library-cum-Identity Cards with the help of barcode system. The collection comprises over 22,000 documents including monographs, commentaries, text books, reference books and loose leaf on various subjects like Jurisprudence, Judicial Process, Constitutional Law, Intellectual Property, Public International Law, Environmental Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Aviation Law, Human Rights, Criminal Law, Cyber Laws, International Business Transactions, and Maritime Law.
Moot Courts are a thrust area of Legal Education. The University strives to integrate the theory and practice of Law in campus settings through moot court activities. The mooting in NLU, Delhi is a serious activity. The moot court activities are co-ordinated by the faculty adviser to the Moot Court Committee. Members of the faculty help students in preparing for Moot Court Competitions. The University has entered into MoU with National University of Singapore, Singapore International Arbitration Centre and Kaden Borris Partners, Lawyers, Gurgaon to host and conduct annually IICLAM moot competition.
