  • Sushil Modi was elected as the new Chairman of Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers on the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) Panel. The GST would be implemented in India by April, 2012.
  • South Sudan became the 193rd country recognised by the UN and the 54th country of African Continent. Juba is the new Capital of South Sudan with Mr. Salva Kiir as its First President.
  • In 2011, Tamil Nadu abolished its Legislative Council. At present there are 6 States in the country which have Legislative Councils.
  • R. A. Mehta has been appointed as the Lokayukta of Gujarat, Manmohan Sarin as the Lokayukta of Delhi, and Shivraj B. Patil as the Lokayukta of Karnataka.
  • As per the Article 155 of the Constitution of India, President Pratibha Patil appointed K. Rosaiah as the new Governor for Tamil Nadu, Dr. Syed Ahmad as the new Governor of Jharkhand, Ram Naresh Yadav as the new Governor of Madhya Pradesh and M.O.H. Farook as the new Governor of Kerala.
  • Dr. Baburam Bhattrai has been appointed as the new Prime Minister of Nepal.
  • Tony Tan has been elected the new President of Singapore, replacing the Indian origin President S. R. Nathan .
  • The ‘Iron Lady’ from Manipur, Irom Sharmila, is on fast for the last 11 years against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA).
  • Lobsang Sangay has been elected as the next Prime Minister of the Tibetan Government in Exile.
  • Yoshihiko Noda has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Japan.
  • Alan Bennett Krueger has been nominated as the Economic Advisor to U.S. President Barack Obama.
  • Dr. Indrajit Singh is the first Sikh member of the House of Lords.
